According to MCV via ChartTrack, GTA 4 has set new one day sales records in the UK.

The total sales for Grand Theft Auto 4’s first day were 609,000. This puts it ahead of the previous one day record, which was held by Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which sold 501,000 units in its first day.

The Xbox 360 version accounted for 335,000 copies (55%), putting it ahead of the previous Xbox 360 record holder, Halo 3, which sold 266,000 units on its first day.

The PS3 version sold 274,000 units, putting it ahead of the previous record holder, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, which sold 80,000 units in its first day of availability.

Taking into account that there are nearly twice as many Xbox 360 systems in the UK as there are PlayStation 3’s, this bodes much better for Sony in terms of attach rate, but regardless, it’s certainly a winning situation for all involved.
